Camel Audio Plugins For Receptor, MixMeister and WireTap Studio
Camel Audio's award-winning plugins are now available on Muse Research'sReceptor, the hardware plugin player. I visted the Camel Audio booth with one of our clients, Terry Huud. Terryis an endorsee of theirs. Having never checked out their software before,it was very interesting to see what they do. I was impressed with what youcan do with their synth and effect plug ins. I met Ben Gillett, the ownerof Camel Audio. He started programing because he couldn't find a plug into make his tracks 'fat' enough. That is how the first versionof Camel Phat. came about. He still programs that way. It's all about thequality of sound and easy control of the plug in effect or synth. Whiletalking to Ben we learned about a new product that may possibly come outlater. Both Terry and I were impressed by what we saw. If you have nevercheck out their software, you should. It's very cool...
Cameleon 5000
Cameleon 5000 is an additive synth, featuring resynthesisand sound morphing, which excels at pads and evolving textures and comeswith a library of over 800 presets. At its heart is the morph square whichallows you to morph between four different instruments at once. You canalso use the morph timeline to create rythmic loops, evolving soundscapesand pads. Cameleon can import sampled sounds (WAV/AIFF) into any of the four voiceslots, or you can choose from the extensive range of built in voices. Cameleonhas many unique features: it breaks sounds down into both a harmonic andnoise component resulting in much higher quality, and greater flexibility.No other additive synth is able to perform multi-sampling resynthesis, whichresults in much more realistic and expressive sounds.
Cameleon also allows you to import image (BMP) files and turn them intosounds. This offers an extremely powerful way to design never heard beforesounds, and if you're ever stuck for inspiration, just try loading up anypicture - perhaps a picture of your mum!
Once you have imported a sound, you can then edit it in ways which areimpossible with a conventional sampler. You have individual control overeach of the harmonics - so you can for example boost all the odd harmonics,or even draw your own harmonic spectra.
Every part of Cameleons interface has been designed with ease of usein mind, and the 'easy' page is just one example. The easy page has simplebut powerful controls to quickly shape the sound, including the abilityto change the balance of harmonics and noise, add LFOs, or edit the amplitudeenvelope. You can also use the unique 'stretch' parameter to time stretchsounds in real time without the loss in quality associated with other instruments.
Cameleon has a comprehensive set of effects, including a sweepable formantfilter, distortion, compression, chorus, delay and reverb. Cameleon is suppliedwith over 800 presets, all arranged into categories, such as pads, leadsand basses. If you're after instant inspiration, just select the type ofsound you require (eg. rythmics) and hit the random button to get an entirelynew random rythmic loop, which has never been heard before. Cameleon alsocomes with a really well written manual including tutorials and tips ongetting the best out of it.
