The supreme technique of m/s processing is employed by this plug-in to produce the ultimate control over the placement of sounds at the stereo spread. The extensive ranges of solo features are not available with it, but a few comprehensive features can be experienced in this plug-in. There are plenty of useful free stereo expander tools available both for Windows and Mac which is great, but please be careful – tools like these can either make or seriously break your mix!
Ozone Imager V2 is probably one of the best free VST plugins as it allows a music composer to have full control over the width of the sounds. The tool has three different vectorscope meters that instantly show the stereo width and help you widen or narrow the sounds precisely as per the project requirements. CamelCrusher by Camel Audio is an easy to use VST Plugin described as “free ‘colouring’ multi-effect plugin”. Even though Camel Audio was bought by Apple in the year 2015, which led to them releasing a paid version CamelPhat, you can still get CamelCrusher for free easily.
If you use Wavosaur for mastering / premastering, or signal analysis in a more general way, you need tools for audio analysis : spectrum analyzers, phase analyzers, sonogram.
Wavosaur comes with analyzers, you’ll find them in the ‘tools’ menu, along with oscilloscopes & statistics about the sound file (maximum sample peak, RMS power, average value.).
But you can also use VST plugins (for some people it can be more convenient).
We have searched deep deep inside deep deep down inside into the web, to find the best free VST plugins for audio analysis, here’s the selection:
1) Spectrum Analysis
1.1) Voxengo SPAN
This spectrum analyzer uses FFT to display the signal frequency in real time.
You can freeze the display, and use the mouse to shows dB values / Frequency value
Frequency is displayed in Hz and in musical note.
The Voxengo SPAN analyzer also displays statistics : RMS power, and it features a clipping detection.

Very nice, with interesting options for the spectrum display : linear/logarithmic/semitones .
Adjustable size for the FFT buffer. Had sometimes display problem with Wavosaur.

1.3) BlueCat FreqAnalyst
Like the previous VST effect, this one can show spectrum of left / right channel or both, has a “hold peak” feature that is interesting, when dealing with EQ level in your mix.

2) Sonogram

This free plugin displays a scrolling sonogram for frequency analysis.
You have the choice for the sonogram colors, and many options to tweak the sonogram displays
This is the only sonogram VST we have found for free ! Fortunaly it’s very good.

3.1) Flux Stereo Tool
When you need to visualize your stereo position, and the repartition in the field, this plugin is very useful. You can check for phase errors in your mixes.

As many experienced mixing & mastering engeneers worldwide are
complaining, stereo-expansion can have unwanted side-effects.
Especially the bass frequencies should normally be simple mono.
As you may guess, my plugin has also a solution for this problem.
Safe Bass
The integrated 'Safe Bass' algorithm centers all bass frequencies
below a adjustable value right back into the middle of the stereo
field. This gives your tracks the solidity and definition you want
while preserving maximum transpancy and sharpness. Similar
techniques were used by professional studio producers over ages
with either expansive hardware devices like elliptical equalizers or
even advanced m/s-processors. With my plugin you will be able
to manage this complicated task with a minimum effort.
Simply turn on 'Safe Bass' and adjust the frequency if needed.
That's it - It's really that simple ! (Especially for Mastering)
Advanced Panning
Additionally A1StereoControl brings you the possibility to place
your stereo signal inside the stereo field in a very intuitive way.
